Cookie policy

1. The short version
Summ uses two kinds of storage. Essential storage keeps you signed in and remembers where you are in the checker. It is always on, because the site does not work without it.
Analytics storage helps us see which pages work and where people get stuck. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for this, and Klaviyo for email. These only run if you accept them, and you can change your mind at any time by clearing your site data.
We never sell your data, we never share your health answers with any advertising network, and we do not use advertising cookies.
2. What is a cookie
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser. They are used to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and make websites work properly.
3. What this site stores
Most of what Summ stores is browser localStorage and sessionStorage rather than traditional cookies. These stay on your device and are never sent to an advertising network.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Klaviyo each set their own cookies as well. Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used so we can see where people get stuck. If you would rather it did not, choose Essential only on the cookie banner.
Here is exactly what we store and why:
What it stores: Your sign-in token (encrypted)
Why: Keeps you logged into the tracker without needing to request a new sign-in link every visit
How long: Until you log out or delete your account
What it stores: Your anonymous user ID
Why: Identifies your account locally
How long: Until you log out or delete your account
What it stores: Your first name
Why: Personalises the tracker interface
How long: Until you log out or delete your account
What it stores: Your current tracking streak count
Why: Displays your streak in the dashboard
How long: Until you log out or delete your account
What it stores: That you have acknowledged this banner
Why: Stops the cookie banner appearing on every page
How long: Permanent (until you clear browser storage)
What it stores: Your Symptom Pattern Checker answers in progress
Why: Saves your progress if you close the Symptom Pattern Checker mid-way
How long: Cleared automatically when you complete signup
What it stores: That you have dismissed the beta notice
Why: Stops the notice reappearing during your session
How long: Until you close your browser tab
4. Third-party cookies
We load one third-party script: Klaviyo, which powers our email capture forms. Klaviyo may set its own cookies (__kla_id, _kx) on your device for email tracking purposes. These are set by Klaviyo, not by us, and are governed by Klaviyo's privacy policy at klaviyo.com/legal/privacy-notice.
Klaviyo cookies are only set after you interact with an email signup form.
We do not load Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, Hotjar, or any other tracking or advertising scripts.
5. How to control cookies and localStorage
You can clear localStorage and sessionStorage at any time through your browser settings:
- Chrome: Settings › Privacy and security › Clear browsing data
- Safari: Settings › Advanced › Website Data › Remove All
- Firefox: Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
Clearing this data will log you out of the tracker. Your account and health data stored on our servers will not be affected — you can sign back in with a new magic link.
